New Song: Awake!
As part of Dandelion’s role as the leaders of the Reawakening Initiative for our diocese up here in New England, we get to gather a team of musicians from all around the northeast to serve as the worship team for the Reawakening Conference. For the past two years we’ve initiated a retreat for that team to write an original song for the conference. This year our friends at Redeemer Church in Franklin, MA graciously agreed to host the retreat.
As Kate and I prayed and planned over the art show aspect of the conference, Kate felt the Lord put the promise Paul gives in Ephesians 5 on her heart. Paul tells us that “when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light.” Jesus enters our areas of shame and brokenness, the places where we hide, and he loves, forgives, and heals us there. He transforms them into light…into our testimony of his grace in our lives. Jesus Christ is calling us to new life. This is the hope for all of us. I led the music team in a devotion focused on this promise, and over the period of 2 days a new song “Awake” was born. “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!”
Here’s the awesome video by Noah Sylvia featuring the team recording the song in the studio in September:
Kate’s beautiful artwork “Blue Moon Dandelion III” served as the visual theme for the conference and the song! Click the song cover below to be able to stream “Awake” on Soundcloud
